TL;DR
VinFast has become India's fourth-largest EV manufacturer in December, surpassing Hyundai and Kia due to its recent electric SUV launches and rapid market entry.
Nasdaq-listed Vietnamese automaker VinFast has emerged as India's fourth-largest electric vehicle manufacturer in December, outperforming South Korean rivals Hyundai and Kia. Despite relatively modest volumes, VinFast, a new entrant in the Indian EV market, recorded 321 unit registrations in December. In comparison, Hyundai Motor India saw 238 unit registrations for its Creta EV, while Kia India, with its recently launched Carens Clavis EV, recorded 272 registrations.
This rapid ascent highlights VinFast's swift market entry, having launched two electric SUVs, the VF6 and VF7, in India earlier in 2025. These vehicles are assembled at the company's Thoothukudi plant in Tamil Nadu. The company has also aggressively expanded its retail footprint, opening 35 showrooms across the country within four months of its launch. Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles maintains its position as India's top-selling EV maker.
