TL;DR
Tesla's Model Y sales in India have exceeded 1,000 units by October 2026, with September recording record sales driven by a price cut and expanding network.
Tesla has surpassed the 1,000-unit sales mark in India with its sole offering, the Model Y, a little over a year after entering the Indian market. According to data from the Vahan portal, Tesla India recorded total deliveries of 1,017 Model Y units between September 2025 and October 2, 2026. September 2026 proved to be the strongest month for the American EV maker, with 291 units sold, marking a 322% increase from the same period last year and a 149% rise month-on-month from August.
This significant sales performance contributed to India's electric passenger vehicle (e-PV) market recording a record monthly retail sales of 35,995 units in September 2026. Tesla accounted for 0.8% of the total e-PV sales and, for the first time, moved to second place in the luxury e-PV segment, outperforming Mercedes-Benz India. The surge in sales from July 2026 onwards is partly attributed to a significant price reduction in May, which saw the Model Y Premium RWD drop by ₹9 lakh to ₹50.89 lakh.
Tesla has also expanded its physical presence in India, with its sixth showroom opening in Chennai, adding to outlets in Mumbai, Delhi, Gurugram, and Bengaluru. The company now operates seven charging stations with 20 Superchargers and 24 Destination Chargers across various locations, including a new facility in Mumbai.
