This initiative marks a significant step in India's emerging market for second-life EV batteries, addressing concerns about battery post-vehicle life.
Under this collaboration, OMC Power will reuse retired EV batteries supplied by Honda, typically after three years of vehicle use, for an additional seven years. These repurposed batteries will be integrated into OMC Power's energy storage solutions, including uninterrupted power supply (UPS) systems for homes and commercial establishments, as well as hybrid rooftop solar installations.
The assembly of these systems will take place at OMC Power's facility in Manesar. With Honda expected to manufacture 6 million EV batteries annually, a substantial supply of used batteries will become available for repurposing. This partnership underscores a growing industry focus on circular economy principles and sustainable practices in the burgeoning EV ecosystem.
