TL;DR
Zingbus is set to deploy 50 electric buses in India in 2026, aiming for 1,000 by 2030, in a significant move for intercity electric mobility.
Intercity bus operator zingbus has announced ambitious plans to integrate electric buses into its fleet across India. The company intends to deploy 50 electric buses in key corridors throughout 2026, with a long-term vision of operating 1,000 electric buses by 2030. This initiative marks a significant step towards electrification in India's intercity travel sector, which has traditionally relied on diesel fleets, unlike the growing adoption seen in urban electric bus programs.
To support this initial rollout, zingbus has established a partnership with Drivn for electric bus leasing, adopting an asset-light model designed to facilitate scaling EV operations while prioritizing route expansion and service delivery. Customer feedback indicates a preference for electric buses due to enhanced comfort, smoother acceleration, and reduced noise and vibration during long journeys. The electric buses will be introduced on high-demand routes equipped with adequate charging infrastructure, with Jio BP partnering to provide access to charging stations.
