TL;DR

India has notified procedures for duty concessions on UK automotive imports under the upcoming India-UK CETA, reducing tariffs from 110% to 10% on a quota-based system, effective July 15, 2026.

India has formally notified the procedures for importers to avail quota-based duty concessions on passenger cars and goods vehicles imported from the United Kingdom. This move comes under the India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), which is set to come into force on July 15, 2026.

Under the CETA, India will significantly reduce import duties on automotive products from approximately 110% to 10%, implemented through a phased approach over a 15-year period. Initially, 20,000 completely built units (CBUs) of petrol and diesel passenger vehicles will be allowed at concessional rates of 30-50%. The agreement also includes provisions for electric, hybrid, and hydrogen-based passenger vehicles, with concessions kicking in from the sixth year of the deal to protect the domestic EV manufacturing ecosystem.
