TL;DR
Hero MotoCorp expanded its lead over Honda in the two-wheeler market in FY26, driven by strong Vida EV sales and a resurgence in entry-level motorcycles.
Hero MotoCorp significantly widened its sales lead over Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) in fiscal year 2026, selling over 310,000 more units. Hero recorded approximately 6.07 million unit sales, compared to Honda's 5.75 million units, reversing a trend from FY25 where the gap had narrowed.
This resurgence for Hero was largely powered by the robust performance of its Vida electric scooter, which sold approximately 150,000 units and captured a 10.3% share of the rapidly expanding electric two-wheeler market. Additionally, a strong rebound in entry-level motorcycle demand, particularly from rural areas, contributed to Hero’s success. Conversely, Honda's scooter market share declined, and its electric offerings remained marginal, setting the stage for increased competition in FY27.
