The Delhi government has officially implemented its new Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy 2026, effective from July 1, 2026, until March 31, 2030. This comprehensive policy aims to significantly accelerate the transition to electric mobility within the capital, introducing substantial incentives and a phased roadmap for the electrification of various vehicle categories. The policy targets to achieve 30% electrification of Delhi's total vehicle fleet by March 2030, supported by an estimated investment of ₹15,000 crore between FY27 and FY30.
Key provisions include 100% exemption on road tax and registration charges for electric cars priced up to ₹30 lakh, along with purchase incentives for two-wheelers (up to ₹30,000 in the first year), three-wheelers (up to ₹50,000), and N1 electric goods vehicles (up to ₹1 lakh). Additionally, the policy offers attractive scrappage incentives for BS-IV or older vehicles, ranging from ₹10,000 for two-wheelers to ₹1 lakh for four-wheelers. Hybrid cars, however, are explicitly excluded from these benefits.
A crucial aspect of the new policy is the commitment to vastly expand the charging infrastructure, with plans to install over 30,000 public charging points across Delhi during the policy period. Furthermore, the policy introduces registration deadlines, mandating that only electric three-wheelers (passenger and goods) will be registered from January 1, 2027, and only electric two-wheelers from April 1, 2028. A three-year lock-in period will also apply to vehicles purchased with government subsidies, preventing their transfer to other states during this time.
