Uttar Pradesh Accelerates EV Charging Network Expansion Under PM E-DRIVE Scheme

TL;DR

Uttar Pradesh is rapidly expanding its EV charging infrastructure under the PM E-DRIVE scheme, aiming for 1,500 public charging stations across the state.

The Yogi government in Uttar Pradesh is expediting efforts to expand the public electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure across the state, operating under the second phase of the PM E-DRIVE scheme. This initiative, managed by the Uttar Pradesh Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPREDA), aims to establish a large-scale network of EV charging stations to promote electric mobility.

Uttar Pradesh has set a target to identify 1,500 locations for public EV charging stations. So far, 240 locations have been identified, with 238 locations already approved across 20 clusters in the current phase. Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) have been completed for 99 sites, while 139 locations are still awaiting MoU finalization.

The proposed charging network includes 39 locations in Gautam Buddha Nagar (Noida-Greater Noida), 6 in Ghaziabad, and 35 in Meerut within the National Capital Region (NCR). In non-NCR regions, 21 locations in Agra, 13 in Prayagraj, 32 in Gorakhpur, 12 in Kanpur, 2 in Kanpur Dehat, 36 in Lucknow, 14 in Mathura, and 28 in Varanasi have been proposed for EV charging stations.
