TL;DR
Haryana has proposed new building code amendments to mandate EV-ready parking and charging infrastructure in all new residential and commercial developments, bolstering EV adoption.
The state of Haryana is taking a significant step towards accelerating electric vehicle (EV) adoption by proposing draft amendments to its building code, mandating EV-ready parking across new residential and commercial projects. These changes to the Haryana Building Code, 2017, require all new and renovated buildings to incorporate electrical conduits and wiring infrastructure to support EV charging in parking areas.
This progressive framework mandates full EV readiness at the parking level, moving beyond limited charger installation to make EV infrastructure a baseline design requirement. Commercial buildings, including office complexes, malls, and hotels, will need at least one EV charging point for every three parking slots, while residential projects will require one for every five slots.
The policy also permits EV charging infrastructure in basement and stilt parking, subject to fire safety compliance, and exempts it from Floor Area Ratio calculations to encourage adoption. This positions Haryana among the most comprehensive EV infrastructure mandates in North India, aiming to future-proof new building stock and address a critical bottleneck in EV adoption.
