TL;DR

VinFast plans to develop two new electric vehicles (VF X and VF Y) exclusively for the Indian market, engaging local suppliers to enhance localization and appeal.

Vietnamese electric vehicle manufacturer VinFast is planning to develop two new EV models specifically tailored for the Indian market, according to recent reports. The company has initiated discussions with Indian suppliers for these two models, internally codenamed VF X and VF Y, indicating a strategic localization push.

VinFast, which began selling vehicles in India in September 2025 and has retailed around 10,000 units to date, intends to leverage components and manufacturing tools readily available through Indian suppliers. This approach aims to reduce costs and enhance the local appeal of its new India-specific products. The company's assembly plant in India currently has an initial annual production capacity of 50,000 vehicles, with scalability to 150,000 units.
