The Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles in India (FAME India) Phase-II scheme has been instrumental in boosting EV sales, supporting 16.72 lakh electric vehicles, encompassing e-2Ws, e-3Ws, and e-4Ws, as of June 30, 2026. Beyond individual vehicles, 5,299 electric buses have also been deployed under the FAME-II scheme. The government has further incentivized EV adoption by reducing the Goods and Services Tax (GST) on electric vehicles and their charging stations to 5 percent.
Additionally, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has introduced green license plates for battery-operated vehicles, exempting them from permit requirements to further encourage their use.
