TL;DR
BMW India expects electric vehicles to account for over 30% of its sales in the latter half of 2026, continuing a sharp increase in EV adoption.
BMW India anticipates a significant surge in electric vehicle (EV) adoption within its luxury segment, projecting that EVs will constitute more than 30% of its total sales in the second half of 2026. This marks a substantial increase from the 26% EV share recorded in the first half of the year, which itself was up from 21% in the corresponding period of the previous year.
The German luxury automaker reported selling 2,359 electric vehicles between January and June 2026, representing a 78% year-on-year increase. Hardeep Singh Brar, President and CEO of BMW Group India, expressed confidence that this growth trajectory could lead to EVs exceeding 40% of BMW India's sales by 2027. This trend indicates a clear shift from conventional petrol and diesel powertrains towards electric models within BMW's sales mix.
