Affordable Financing Identified as Key to Delhi's EV Policy Success

TL;DR

Affordable financing, including flexible loans and battery leasing, is crucial for the successful widespread adoption of electric vehicles under Delhi's EV Policy 2026.

The success of Delhi's Electric Vehicle Policy 2026 hinges significantly on the availability of affordable financing and broader access to credit, according to Ayush Lohia, CEO of YOUDHA Auto. Lohia emphasized that the next phase of India's EV growth will be driven more by affordability than by technology alone.

The Delhi EV Policy 2026, which came into effect on July 1 and will remain active until March 31, 2030, aims to accelerate the transition to electric mobility. While it offers purchase incentives for electric two-wheelers, with up to ₹30,000 in the first year, flexible financing models, battery leasing options, and a lower total cost of ownership are crucial to make electric vehicles accessible to a wider demographic.

Lohia highlighted that such financial support mechanisms would enable millions of customers to adopt electric mobility, thereby helping the Delhi government achieve its goal of a cleaner and more sustainable transport ecosystem. The policy represents a substantial commitment from the state government, with a proposed outlay of INR 15,000 crores over four years to support EV incentives and infrastructure.
