The FZ 25 is frequently used for longer commutes and touring runs — a failing fuel pump on a highway stretch is a far worse situation than in city traffic. Watch for these signs:
- No priming buzz on ignition — Turn the key and listen for ~2 seconds of pump pre-pressurisation. No buzz is the clearest sign of pump motor failure.
- Difficulty starting cold in the morning — An ageing pump builds pressure slowly, needing multiple cranks before the 249cc single fires up on a cold day.
- Stalling at roundabouts / traffic lights — Especially when the tank is below one-quarter full, a clogged strainer causes the engine to die at idle.
