Yamaha Halts Sales of R3 and MT-03 in India Amidst Low Demand

TL;DR

Yamaha India has discontinued the R3 and MT-03 motorcycles, halting imports and sales due to persistently low demand despite price reductions.

Yamaha India has quietly ceased the import and sale of its YZF-R3 and MT-03 motorcycles in the Indian market. Dealerships across the country have confirmed that both models are no longer in stock, signaling their discontinuation. These motorcycles, imported as Completely Built-Up (CBU) units, were positioned as Yamaha's entry into the middleweight segment but faced limited consumer interest primarily due to their premium pricing.

Despite efforts earlier this year, including a significant price reduction of ₹1.10 lakh, followed by another ₹20,000 cut after GST revisions, the R3 and MT-03 failed to achieve substantial sales traction. While current offerings in Yamaha's entry-level performance segment are limited, there is an expectation that new versions of the R3 and MT-03 could be reintroduced in India around mid-2026.
