Propel Industries Forges Ahead with Electrification, Expanding Heavy Mining EV Truck Production

TL;DR

Propel Industries is boosting its electrification efforts by investing ₹350 crore in a new EV plant to expand its heavy electric mining truck production, citing significant environmental and cost benefits.

Propel Industries, a key player in the mining and construction sectors, is significantly accelerating its electrification initiatives by expanding its portfolio and manufacturing capabilities for heavy electric mining trucks. The company, which ventured into electric mobility two years ago with 45-tonne and 60-tonne electric mining trucks, has now introduced 70-tonne and 90-tonne variants, an 8x4 electric truck, and a 6x4 model.

Propel plans to invest approximately ₹350 crore in a new, dedicated EV plant spanning 30 acres near Coimbatore, with groundbreaking set for April–May 2026. This expansion is designed to double its current production capacity of 20-25 electric trucks per month and subsequently scale up to six to nine trucks daily. The company emphasizes the environmental and economic benefits of electric trucks, which can reduce carbon emissions significantly and offer 20-30% lower operating costs compared to diesel counterparts.
