Maruti Suzuki's e-Vitara Marks Strategic EV Debut in India

TL;DR

Maruti Suzuki has launched its first battery electric vehicle, the e-Vitara SUV, in India, supported by a vast new charging infrastructure network and global export plans.

Maruti Suzuki India Limited has officially commenced sales of Suzuki's inaugural battery electric vehicle, the e-Vitara, in India. Launched on February 17, 2026, this compact electric SUV is built on Suzuki's brand-new HEARTECT-e platform, specifically engineered for electric vehicles. Production of the e-Vitara is underway at Maruti Suzuki's Hansalpur plant in Gujarat, with plans for exports to over 100 countries globally after initial sales began in Europe and Japan.

To facilitate widespread adoption and alleviate range anxiety, Maruti Suzuki has introduced its comprehensive “e for me” strategy. This initiative includes the establishment of over 2,000 exclusive charging points across more than 1,100 Indian cities at launch, with an ambitious target of reaching 100,000 charging points by 2030 through strategic partnerships. Furthermore, 1,500 service workshops across the nation have been made BEV-ready to support the e-Vitara, complemented by mobile service vehicles for added convenience.
