Maruti Suzuki Becomes India's Fourth-Largest EV Manufacturer, Driven by e Vitara Success

TL;DR

Maruti Suzuki is now India's fourth-largest EV manufacturer, with its e Vitara model contributing significantly to rising EV registrations and strong export performance.

Maruti Suzuki has ascended to become India's fourth-largest electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, a significant milestone driven by the increasing momentum of its e Vitara model. The broader Indian EV market is also experiencing rapid growth, with passenger EV registrations surging by 77 percent year-on-year to 52,274 units during April and May 2026. This growth has pushed electric vehicle penetration to 6.4 percent in May, reflecting increasing consumer acceptance and a wider array of EV options.

Industry analysts attribute this upward trend to several factors, including rising fuel prices, improving charging infrastructure across the country, and a more diverse range of electric vehicles entering the market. Beyond its domestic success, the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara has also established itself as a crucial export vehicle for the company.

Since its international debut in September 2025, Maruti Suzuki has shipped over 35,000 units of the e Vitara to 46 global markets, demonstrating its strong appeal beyond India's borders. This dual success in both domestic sales and exports highlights Maruti Suzuki's growing influence in the global electric mobility landscape.
