India's Technology Development Board Boosts Indigenous EV Charger Commercialization

TL;DR

India's TDB is funding Electrowaves Electronics for the commercialization of indigenously developed AC and DC fast EV chargers, promoting self-reliance and faster EV adoption.

In a significant push towards bolstering India's electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem, the Technology Development Board (TDB) under the Department of Science & Technology (DST) has approved funding for Electrowaves Electronics Pvt. Ltd. of Himachal Pradesh. This financial support aims to facilitate the commercialization of indigenously designed and manufactured EV chargers, aligning with the 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' and 'Make in India' initiatives to foster self-reliance in clean mobility infrastructure.

The funding encompasses both AC chargers for domestic and public use, and DC fast chargers with outputs ranging from 30 kW to 240 kW, catering to a diverse array of EV types. Electrowaves has developed a comprehensive in-house technology stack, which includes power modules (15 kW and 30 kW), insulation monitoring devices, and communication controllers compliant with international protocols like DIN SPEC 70121, partial ISO 15118, and OCPP 1.6J / 2.0.1.

This strategic investment is expected to significantly accelerate the deployment of EV charging infrastructure across India, thereby promoting faster EV adoption and supporting sustainable transportation goals. By enhancing domestic manufacturing capabilities, the initiative also aims to reduce India's reliance on imported EV charging components, ensuring a more robust and self-sufficient EV ecosystem.
