The Indian automotive market is set to witness a significant expansion in its compact electric vehicle (EV) segment throughout 2026, with major players like Tata Motors and VinFast introducing new models and facelifts. This strategic move aims to cater to India's price-sensitive market by offering more affordable and accessible electric mobility options.
Among the anticipated launches, VinFast, which entered the Indian market last year with its VF6 and VF7 models, is preparing to roll out the smaller VF3 and VF5 electric hatchbacks. The VinFast VF3, designed with an SUV-like appearance, will offer 29.6 kWh and 37.2 kWh battery options, providing a claimed maximum range of 326 km. Similarly, the VF5 will mirror the design language of its larger siblings and feature comparable battery packs and range. Tata Motors is also updating its entry-level electric offering with a facelift for the Tiago EV, which has been spotted undergoing road tests. The refreshed Tiago EV is expected to receive revised bumpers, updated headlamps and taillights, and potential minor cosmetic changes to its interior, alongside the possibility of a larger battery pack to enhance its appeal.
