The government's Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes have been instrumental in creating a robust industrial framework to spur domestic manufacturing. Major industrial conglomerates like the Tata Group have successfully qualified under these schemes, contributing to the establishment of substantial manufacturing capacity. This policy framework is designed to fortify India's manufacturing ecosystem, aiming to reduce the nation's historical reliance on imported battery technology.
Sharma also noted that the perception of EVs as a 'premium' choice is rapidly diminishing as the cost of electric mobility becomes more accessible. Government initiatives such as the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles (FAME) scheme, alongside PLI programs, are not only fostering domestic production but also stimulating consumer demand. This collective effort is positioning India to not only meet its own demand for lithium and batteries but also to become a significant global player in the export market.
