Hyundai India Prepares Dual Subcompact SUV Offensive for 2026 Market

TL;DR

Hyundai India is set to launch a refreshed Exter and a new Bayon-based subcompact SUV in 2026 to compete with Tata Punch and Maruti Fronx.

Hyundai India has ambitious plans to introduce two new subcompact SUVs in 2026, directly challenging established rivals like the Tata Punch and Maruti Fronx. The forthcoming lineup includes a facelift for the popular Hyundai Exter and a new compact crossover based on the globally available Hyundai Bayon.

The Bayon-based SUV, codenamed Bc4i, will be specifically adapted for the Indian market, including a length reduction to qualify for tax benefits. It is expected to feature Hyundai's new 1.2L turbo petrol engine, compatible with hybrid technology, and potentially the 1.0L turbo petrol engine from the Venue. Both manual and automatic transmission options will be offered. The Exter facelift will also debut Hyundai's next-generation infotainment system, featuring a dual-screen setup with a 12.9-inch touchscreen and a 9.9-inch digital driver's display.
