TL;DR
Delhi's 2026 EV Policy mandates a phased transition to electric two- and three-wheelers by 2028, offering substantial incentives and aiming to reduce vehicular pollution.
Delhi's Electric Vehicles Policy 2026, effective from July 1, 2026, is a bold intervention aimed at curbing vehicular pollution and accelerating the transition to clean mobility. The policy mandates that from January 2027, only electric three-wheelers and N1-category light goods vehicles can be newly registered, extending the mandate to new two-wheelers from April 2028.
The policy includes significant incentives for EV buyers, such as purchase incentives up to ₹30,000 for electric two-wheelers and ₹50,000 for e-autos. Electric cars priced up to ₹3 million receive exemptions on road tax and registration fees, and eligible owners can receive ₹100,000 for scrapping older cars. The Delhi government has allocated ₹150 billion for this policy, which also supports the expansion of charging infrastructure and battery recycling.
