Brembo and Ningbo SAFE Brakes Systems have formed a joint venture to manufacture motorcycle ABS systems in India, aiming to enhance two-wheeler safety and localize production in the world's largest two-wheeler market.
Global braking system leader Brembo and China's Ningbo SAFE Brakes Systems have officially announced a joint venture aimed at producing motorcycle Anti-lock Braking Systems (ABS) in India. The new entity, named BRSF Active Safety Solutions, will establish local assembly and supply of ABS units specifically for the burgeoning Indian two-wheeler market. Brembo will hold a 60 percent majority stake in this partnership, leveraging Ningbo SAFE Brakes Systems' extensive manufacturing expertise in the motorcycle ABS segment.
The manufacturing operations for BRSF Active Safety Solutions will be based in Chakan, Pune, strategically located next to Brembo India's existing plant. This facility is set to feature automated assembly lines and is expected to initially create approximately 50 jobs. The companies plan a gradual increase in production volumes and a stronger focus on supply chain localization over time.
India stands as the world's largest two-wheeler market, witnessing significant growth alongside an increasing emphasis on safety technology across all price points. The joint venture will offer both single-channel and dual-channel ABS solutions, catering to a wide range of motorcycles from mass-market commuter bikes to larger, premium performance models. This initiative is expected to bolster foundation brake solutions under Brembo's BYBRE brand, enhancing supply to Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) in India and supporting the country's evolving motorcycle safety standards.
