❓ Frequently Asked Questions
Does this fit all CBR 250R variants — Standard, C-ABS, and Repsol?
Yes. The fuel pump assembly (OEM 16700-KYJ-901) is the same across all India-spec CBR 250R variants — Standard, C-ABS (Combined ABS), and the 2013 Repsol Special Edition. The fuel system is identical regardless of the braking system fitted.
Does this fit both BS3 (pre-2018) and BS4 (2018–2020) models?
Yes. Honda updated the CBR 250R with BS4 compliance and new colours in 2018 but retained the same engine and fuel system. The pump part number 16700-KYJ-901 covers both BS3 and BS4 variants.
My CBR 250R was purchased in 2012 — will this still fit?
Yes. The CBR 250R was launched in India in 2011 and the fuel pump design was unchanged throughout its production life until discontinuation in 2020.
Honda CBR 250R
Is the CBR 250R BS6 version available?
No. Honda discontinued the CBR 250R in India in 2020 without a BS6 update. The last India-spec CBR 250R produced was the BS4 variant. There is no BS6 CBR 250R available in India — so if you own a CBR 250R, it runs a BS3 or BS4 engine.
⚠️ When to Replace Your Fuel Pump
The CBR 250R fuel pump typically lasts 50,000–70,000 km under normal conditions. Age, fuel quality, and low-fuel riding habits are the primary causes of early failure on this liquid-cooled sport bike.
-
Difficulty Starting: Engine cranks repeatedly before firing, especially when the bike has been sitting for a day or more.
-
Stalling at Highway Speed: Engine suddenly cuts out at high RPM or sustained speeds on expressways — fuel starvation is the most common cause.
-
Loss of Top-End Power: Bike feels strong up to a point, then falls flat — the pump cannot maintain adequate pressure at high fuel demand.
-
Whining or Buzzing from Tank: Audible pump noise when ignition key is turned on is normal for 2–3 seconds; prolonged or loud noise indicates a failing motor.
-
FI Malfunction Indicator: The FI warning light illuminates and does not reset after restarting.
-
Rough Idle or Hunting: Engine idle fluctuates between high and low RPM with no other obvious cause.
⚙️ Mechanic Tip: Always replace the complete fuel pump assembly — not just the motor. The sender unit and strainer degrade together with the pump motor and a partial replacement will result in repeat failure. Always replace as a complete unit.
🔩 Installation Notes
The CBR 250R has a single-piece fuel tank with an in-tank pump module accessed from the top of the tank. Completely drain the fuel before removal. The pump sits in a housing secured by a large circular locking ring — use a fuel pump spanner or a soft-jaw tool to unscrew without damaging the tank. Note the orientation of the old pump (check alignment tab) before removal and match exactly when installing the new unit to avoid incorrect sender float positioning.
Variant Notes: All India-spec CBR 250R models (BS3 and BS4, Standard and ABS) use the same pump housing, connector, and retaining ring. No modifications required for any variant.
