TL;DR

Yamaha has started production of its River Indie-based EC-06 electric scooter in India, featuring a 4kWh battery, 160km range, and connected features, with a launch expected soon.

Yamaha has officially begun series production of its EC-06 electric scooter in India. Manufactured at River's facility in Hoskote, Karnataka, the EC-06 is based on the River Indie platform but features distinct styling and a revised set of features to differentiate it. The scooter is powered by a 4kWh fixed battery pack, offering a claimed range of 160km, with a full charge taking approximately nine hours via a standard household socket.

Propelling the EC-06 is a 4.5kW electric motor, providing a peak output of 6.7kW and a top speed of 90kmph. Feature-wise, the electric scooter includes a modest LCD display, a SIM-based telematics unit for real-time tracking and connected functions, three ride modes, and a reverse function. It also offers 24.5-litres of under-seat storage, enhancing its practicality for everyday use. With production now underway, Yamaha is expected to officially launch the EC-06 in the Indian market in the coming weeks, likely priced similarly to the River Indie.
