Volvo Car India Balances Electric Future with Surging Mild-Hybrid SUV Sales Post-GST Reform

TL;DR

Volvo Car India continues its EV focus while experiencing strong demand for mild-hybrid SUVs following GST 2.0 implementation, with plans for an aggressive EV rollout in 2026.

Volvo Car India remains steadfast in its commitment to an all-electric future, with electric vehicles consistently accounting for one out of every four cars sold in the domestic market. However, the implementation of 'GST 2.0' has significantly boosted the appeal and sales growth of its mild-hybrid SUV models, such as the XC90 and XC60.

Jyoti Malhotra, Managing Director of Volvo Car India, noted that the tax rationalization under GST 2.0 has streamlined the luxury vehicle segment, making mild-hybrid SUVs an even more compelling proposition for customers. While EV sales remain steady, the company is preparing for a more aggressive electric vehicle rollout in 2026, viewing current figures as a solid baseline for future growth in electrification.
