The upcoming SUV will be built locally on the MQB-A0-IN platform, shared with Skoda's Kylaq. While it will share mechanical underpinnings, Volkswagen emphasized that the new model will feature its own distinct design and market positioning. It is expected to be powered by the 1.0-litre TSI turbo petrol engine, which produces 114bhp and 178Nm of torque in the Kylaq, available with both manual and automatic gearbox options.
Thomas Schafer, CEO of Volkswagen Passenger Cars, expressed the brand's aspirations for significant growth in India, moving beyond incremental advancements. The sub-4 meter SUV is also being considered as a potential export product, leveraging its unique positioning within Volkswagen's global lineup.
