Toyota Outlines Ambitious India Strategy: 15 New Models and 10% Market Share Target by 2030

TL;DR

Toyota is set to launch 15 new models in India by 2030, targeting a 10% market share and expanding its manufacturing capabilities and rural network.

Toyota plans to significantly expand its presence in India by launching 15 new and refreshed models by the end of the decade, aiming to capture a 10% market share from its current 8%. This ambitious strategy, announced on October 30-31, 2025, is driven by record profits in India and a strategic move to lessen its reliance on alliance partner Suzuki. The new models will include Toyota's own vehicles, some supplied by Suzuki, and upgrades to existing offerings. The product offensive is expected to feature at least two new SUVs under the Toyota brand, specifically designed to compete with leading SUV manufacturers like Mahindra & Mahindra and Hyundai Motor. Additionally, an affordable pickup truck is planned to broaden Toyota's appeal in rural India. The company's capacity expansion will occur in phases, eventually enabling it to produce over 1 million cars annually across its two manufacturing sites in India. Toyota intends to build on its leadership in alternate-fuel vehicles, particularly with its popular hybrids like the Urban Cruiser Hyryder SUV and Innova Hycross MPV. The first product from Toyota's new plant in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (Aurangabad), Maharashtra, is expected to be an SUV with multiple powertrain options, including gasoline, hybrid, and electric, for both the Indian and export markets. This substantial investment and strategic shift highlight India's increasing importance in Toyota's global plans.
