Toyota Aqua Hybrid's Potential India Debut Signals New Efficiency Push

TL;DR

The Toyota Aqua Hybrid, featuring a 35.8 kmpl mileage and a Bipolar Nickel Hydrogen battery, has been spotted testing in India, indicating a potential market entry.

The Toyota Aqua Hybrid has been spotted testing on Indian roads once again, hinting at a potential market launch. This efficiency-focused hatchback boasts a claimed mileage of 35.8 kmpl, powered by a 1.5L three-cylinder petrol engine paired with a CVT system, delivering 89.8 bhp and 120 Nm of torque.

Built on Toyota's TNGA-B platform, the Aqua Hybrid offers both 2WD and 4WD configurations. A key technological highlight is its Bipolar Nickel Hydrogen battery pack, touted as a world-first, which provides a 1.5x longer service life compared to conventional batteries. The car also features a 10.5-inch infotainment screen.

While an official launch confirmation for India is still pending, the repeated sightings suggest Toyota is actively evaluating hybrid feasibility in the country. This move aligns with broader industry efforts to introduce more fuel-efficient and technologically advanced vehicles.
