Three New Car Brands Poised for Indian Market Entry

TL;DR

Leapmotor, JSW Motors (Chery), and Genesis are preparing to enter the Indian car market, introducing a range of EVs and premium SUVs.

The Indian automotive landscape is set to welcome three new car brands: Leapmotor, JSW Motors (in partnership with Chery), and Hyundai’s luxury marque, Genesis. Leapmotor plans to introduce multiple electric vehicles, including the T03 compact electric hatchback, the B10 SUV, and the C10 mid-size EV, targeting both the entry-level and mid-size segments. The T03, for instance, is expected to offer a range of around 265 km with a 37.3 kWh battery pack.

JSW Motors, following its collaboration with Chinese manufacturer Chery, is expected to launch the Jetour T2, a premium plug-in hybrid SUV. This vehicle, already undergoing testing in India, will feature a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine combined with an electric motor, providing an electric-only range of approximately 100 km. Additionally, JSW will bring in the pure electric iCar V23 SUV.

Hyundai's luxury division, Genesis, has confirmed its entry into the Indian market by 2027. The brand is anticipated to focus on SUVs and plans to sell its models as Completely Knocked Down (CKD) units to appeal to the premium segment.
