Tata Motors and Mahindra Plan Three New Compact SUV Launches by 2028

TL;DR

Tata Motors and Mahindra are set to introduce three new compact SUVs by 2028, with Mahindra launching its Vision.S concept production model and Tata developing the 'Scarlet' SUV.

Indian automotive giants Tata Motors and Mahindra are set to significantly bolster their presence in the compact SUV segment with plans to introduce three new models by 2028. While 2026 has largely been dominated by new mid-size SUV launches, the compact SUV market is poised for a resurgence, spearheaded by these homegrown automakers.

Mahindra is expected to launch the production version of its Vision.S concept in early 2027. This model will be a monocoque SUV built on a new 'NU_IQ' platform, designed to offer a proper SUV identity with a boxy shape, high ground clearance, and rugged details. Its interior is anticipated to feature a tall, upright dashboard with vertical AC vents, catering to consumers seeking a traditional SUV aesthetic.

Tata Motors is working on a model codenamed 'Scarlet,' which is likely to share its platform, powertrains, and core components with the next-generation Nexon. However, the Scarlet is expected to feature a more authentic SUV character with a squarer body, rugged design elements, and higher ground clearance, distinguishing it from its sibling. These launches underscore a strategic move by both manufacturers to double down on a highly competitive and in-demand vehicle segment.
