The Indian government's PM Electric Drive Revolution in Innovative Vehicle Enhancement (PM E-DRIVE) Scheme is significantly accelerating Electric Vehicle (EV) adoption nationwide. This initiative provides targeted demand incentives across various EV segments, including two-wheelers, three-wheelers (e-rickshaws, e-carts, and L5 category), e-ambulances, and e-trucks, effectively lowering the upfront cost for consumers.
These upfront incentives are disbursed directly to buyers and end-users to reduce purchase prices, with reimbursements then provided to Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) by the Government of India. The scheme has already supported over 2.8 million EVs and includes grants for 14,028 e-buses for State Transport Undertakings.
Beyond purchase incentives, PM E-DRIVE has allocated ₹2,000 crore for developing EV Public Charging Stations (EVPCS) nationwide and upgrading testing facilities. These comprehensive measures are bolstering the EV ecosystem, enhancing consumer confidence, and facilitating the large-scale transition towards clean and sustainable mobility solutions across India.
