MG Motor India Prepares for Late August Launch of New Hybrid and Electric SUV

TL;DR

MG Motor India is slated to launch a new SUV with both electric and plug-in hybrid variants in late August 2026, based on the Wuling Starlight.

JSW MG Motor India is set to make a significant entry into the Indian market with the introduction of new electric (EV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variants of an SUV based on the Wuling Starlight, also known as the Eksion in China. This new model, built on MG's ADAPT platform, is expected to debut in late August 2026. The move underscores MG's aggressive strategy to bolster its electrified vehicle portfolio in India and compete in key segments.

The electric version of the Starlight-based SUV is anticipated to challenge models like the Mahindra XEV 9S, while the PHEV variant will target diesel-automatic versions of popular SUVs such as the XUV 7XO and Tata Safari. The EV model is rumored to feature a 69kWh battery pack paired with a single front-mounted motor, delivering 201hp and 310Nm of torque, with a claimed range of approximately 600km on the CLTC cycle. This dual offering aims to cater to a broad spectrum of environmentally conscious buyers.
