Currently, ABS is compulsory only for two-wheelers with engine capacities exceeding 125 cc, a rule in effect since 2019. The proposed expansion to smaller capacity vehicles, including 100 cc and 110 cc commuter models, is expected to reduce accidents caused by wheel lock-up during emergency braking. While CBS offers some assistance by linking front and rear brakes, it does not actively prevent wheel lock, a critical safety function that ABS provides. The industry is now evaluating the implications and readiness for this widespread implementation.
