Kia Hints at Imminent Hybrid and Electric SUV Debuts for Indian Market

TL;DR

Kia India teases the upcoming launch of two electrified vehicles, likely the Sorento Hybrid SUV and the Syros EV, expanding its hybrid and battery-electric portfolio.

South Korean automaker Kia has released a teaser video, strongly indicating the upcoming launch of two new electrified models in India: a Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) and a Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV). While not officially named, industry speculation points to the Kia Sorento Hybrid and the Kia Syros EV as the most likely candidates, both of which have been extensively spotted testing on Indian roads.

The Kia Syros EV is expected to be the brand's fourth electric offering in India, following the Carens Clavis EV, EV6, and EV9. It is anticipated to retain the boxy design of its internal combustion engine counterpart but will feature EV-specific styling cues such as a revised front and rear, aerodynamic alloy wheels, and a charging port located on the front fender. Inside, the Syros EV is likely to incorporate a large 30-inch Trinity display, panoramic sunroof, 360-degree camera, and Level 2 ADAS.

Meanwhile, the Kia Sorento Hybrid is poised to become Kia India's flagship SUV, positioned above the Seltos. This three-row SUV is expected to offer six- and seven-seat configurations, along with premium features like a panoramic sunroof, Bose audio system, ventilated seats, and Level 2 ADAS. A self-charging hybrid powertrain is the most probable option for the Indian market, although a plug-in hybrid variant might also be considered.
