Japanese E-Scooter Sales Exceed 10,000 Units in India for the First Time in 2026

TL;DR

Japanese manufacturers Honda, Suzuki, and Yamaha have collectively sold over 10,000 electric scooters in India for the first time in 2026, with Honda leading the sales.

For the first time in a calendar year, cumulative retail sales of electric scooters from Japanese manufacturers Honda, Suzuki, and Yamaha in India have surpassed the 10,000-unit mark. According to recent Vahan statistics, these three companies collectively sold 10,735 units between January 1 and October 8, 2026. Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) leads with 5,536 units sold to date this year, accounting for over 51 percent of the total Japanese e-scooter sales. HMSI achieved its best monthly sales in September, crossing 1,000 units for the first time, a figure expected to rise further with the recent launch of its third e-scooter, the QC3.

Suzuki Motorcycle India, which introduced the e-Access in January 2026, has sold 4,133 units by October 8, securing a 39 percent share among the three Japanese OEMs. Yamaha entered the market two months later with its EC-O6, making 2026 the first year all three Japanese manufacturers are active in the Indian electric scooter segment. Despite this milestone, the combined sales of Honda, Suzuki, and Yamaha represent a modest 0.66 percent share of the total 1.61 million e-two-wheelers sold in India between January 1 and October 8, 2026.
