India's PM E-Drive Scheme Propels EV Sales Past 2.8 Million Units

TL;DR

Over 2.8 million electric vehicles, including 2 million two-wheelers and 300,000 three-wheelers, have been sold under India's PM E-Drive scheme, indicating strong EV adoption and government support.

India's commitment to electric mobility is yielding significant results, with over 2.8 million electric vehicles sold under the PM E-Drive initiative as of February. Union Heavy Industries Minister Mr. H.D. Kumaraswamy announced this impressive figure at the 3rd FICCI National Conference on Electric Vehicles in New Delhi.

The sales data highlights widespread consumer acceptance and robust government support for green mobility, including more than 2 million electric two-wheelers and nearly 300,000 electric three-wheelers. This surge in EV adoption not only contributes to improving air quality in cities but also stimulates the growth of local manufacturing. Furthermore, the government is actively electrifying the public transport sector, with over 14,000 electric buses approved for major cities, demonstrating a strong commitment to developing green mobility infrastructure. The increasing number of Free Trade Agreements with regions like the European Union, Australia, and the UAE is also opening new export markets for Indian-made EVs and their components.
