India's electric vehicle (EV) sector witnessed a significant surge in sales during March 2026, with total registered EV units reaching an impressive 279,530. This marks a substantial increase from the 195,793 units recorded in February 2026, indicating robust growth across various categories of electric mobility.
The growth was particularly pronounced in the electric two-wheeler (E2W) segment, where sales sharply rose to 191,067 units from 112,628. Similarly, electric four-wheeler (E4W) sales also saw a healthy jump, increasing to 22,315 units from 14,712. The penetration of EVs in the two-wheeler category notably climbed from 6.6% in February to 9.8% in March, while the four-wheeler passenger car/cab segment experienced an increase in EV penetration from 3.7% to 5.1% within the same period. These figures highlight a consistent and accelerating adoption of electric vehicles across India.
