Honda Prioritizes India as a Key Market for Future Global Automotive Growth

TL;DR

Honda designates India as a key market for its future global growth, planning new SUV models with hybrid and EV options by FY27 to boost its four-wheeler business.

Japanese auto major Honda has identified India as a pivotal market for its future global growth strategy, alongside the US and Japan. Takashi Nakajima, President and CEO of Honda Cars India, stated that the company's focus on India has intensified significantly over the past couple of years, recognizing its immense potential. Honda aims to aggressively grow its four-wheeler business by expanding its model lineup in the country.

The automaker plans to introduce three new models in India by the fiscal year 2026-27, primarily targeting the robustly growing SUV segment. These new introductions will encompass both internal combustion engine-powered models and hybrid and battery electric powertrains, aligning with Honda's long-term goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. Nakajima indicated that while specific investment plans for enhancing production capacity are still under investigation, expanding manufacturing facilities will be necessary to meet future demand.
