Ethanol-Powered Mobile EV Fast Charger Unveiled in India, Boosting Grid Independence

TL;DR

India sees the launch of the world's first ethanol-based 150 kW mobile EV fast charger, offering a grid-independent and sustainable charging solution.

ThunderPlus, a rapidly expanding EV charging company in India, has partnered with Trinity Cleantech to introduce the world's first mobile, ethanol-based 150 kW DC fast charger-cum-generator. This innovative device, named the ME Energy Rapid Charger 150, is poised to revolutionize India's electric vehicle charging infrastructure by offering a grid-independent, sustainable solution.

Unlike traditional fast chargers that demand substantial infrastructure, lengthy approval processes, and costly high-capacity grid connections, the Rapid Charger 150 can be deployed virtually anywhere and become fully operational within 72 hours, without reliance on the electrical grid. It operates entirely on ethanol, a renewable biofuel, significantly reducing CO₂ emissions by up to 80% compared to diesel generators, while also cutting operational costs and setup time by over 50%.

This development aligns with India's vision of 'Atma Nirbhar Bharat' (Self-Reliant India), providing an indigenous and bio-fuel-based alternative to current charging solutions. Rajeev YSR, Director & CEO of ThunderPlus, highlighted the charger's ability to address 'charger-anxiety' by offering a cleaner, mobile, and quickly deployable charging solution.
