Delhi Unveils Draft EV Policy 2026 with Enhanced Incentives and Infrastructure Focus

TL;DR

Delhi's new draft EV Policy 2026-2030, set for announcement, proposes enhanced incentives for electric two-wheelers and auto-rickshaws, expanded charging infrastructure, and car tax exemptions.

The Delhi government is preparing to announce its new Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy 2026, with the draft set to be presented during the Budget Session which began on March 16. This new policy, valid until 2030, aims to significantly curb vehicular pollution and further accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles in the capital, succeeding the current policy which expires on March 31, 2026.

Key features of the proposed policy include year-wise incentives, with up to ₹10,000 per kWh for electric two-wheelers (capped at ₹30,000) and ₹50,000 for electric auto-rickshaws. It also plans to introduce incentives for scrapping old vehicles, substantial expansion of charging infrastructure, and the establishment of systems for battery recycling and disposal. Unlike the existing policy, the draft proposes limits on road tax and registration fee exemptions for electric cars, granting 100% exemption for cars up to ₹30 lakh until March 31, 2030. Officials anticipate the formal notification of the policy from the next financial year after cabinet approval and public domain placement.
