Delhi Government Initiates Revised EV Policy with Focus on CNG Vehicle Transition

TL;DR

Delhi government forms expert panel to revise EV policy, targeting full transition of CNG vehicles to electric by April 2026 and boosting charging infrastructure.

The Delhi government has established a 10-member expert committee tasked with drafting a revised Electric Vehicle (EV) policy, aiming to enhance infrastructure and accelerate the shift from CNG to electric vehicles. Officials confirmed on April 10, 2026, that the committee's agenda includes critical areas such as charging infrastructure, battery waste management, and subsidy disbursement.

A key directive for the committee is to conduct a scientific study to assess the number of CNG vehicles in operation and propose a viable plan for transitioning all of them to EVs within a year, starting April 1, 2026. The revised policy will also explore enabling EV charging stations under flyovers and establish annual targets for private and semi-public charging stations. Additionally, the policy is expected to integrate a long-term plan for land allocation to accommodate the anticipated increase in EV adoption.
