The uniform, which will be either sky blue or yellow, aims to bring more professionalism and regulation to the sector. This move also follows the Delhi transport department's recent withdrawal of a circular that previously allowed companies to register multiple electric carts and rickshaws in their names, a step aimed at promoting self-employment and curbing exploitation.
As of January 2026, over 204,000 e-rickshaws were officially registered on the Vahan dashboard in Delhi, though unofficial estimates suggest the actual numbers are considerably higher. The fare revision reflects the economic pressures faced by operators and seeks to provide them with a more sustainable livelihood, even as the government continues to deliberate on official endorsements for such changes.
