Delhi E-Rickshaw Fares Revised to ₹20 Minimum, First Change Since 2014

TL;DR

Delhi's e-rickshaw minimum fare increased to ₹20 from May 1, 2026, the first revision since 2014, due to rising operational costs.

E-rickshaw fares in Delhi have been revised to a minimum of ₹20, effective from May 1, 2026. This marks the first fare increase since the introduction of e-rickshaws in 2014, a decision announced by the Federation of E-rickshaws. The revision comes amidst increasing operational costs, including vehicle acquisition and charging expenses. While the federation has implemented this change, the Delhi government has not yet officially approved a minimum fare.

Anuj Sharma, chairman of the federation, stated that in addition to the fare adjustment, e-rickshaw drivers have been asked to wear uniforms and ensure their vehicles possess proper fitness certificates. The uniform, which will be either sky blue or yellow, aims to bring more professionalism and regulation to the sector. This move also follows the Delhi transport department's recent withdrawal of a circular that previously allowed companies to register multiple electric carts and rickshaws in their names, a step aimed at promoting self-employment and curbing exploitation.

As of January 2026, over 204,000 e-rickshaws were officially registered on the Vahan dashboard in Delhi, though unofficial estimates suggest the actual numbers are considerably higher. The fare revision reflects the economic pressures faced by operators and seeks to provide them with a more sustainable livelihood, even as the government continues to deliberate on official endorsements for such changes.
