TL;DR

BYD's luxury EV brand, Denza, has confirmed its entry into India, with the Z9 GT shooting brake and D9 MPV expected as its first premium offerings.

Denza, the luxury electric vehicle brand under BYD, has officially confirmed its imminent entry into the Indian market through a social media announcement. The brand is expected to launch with its Z9 GT shooting brake and the D9 MPV as its initial offerings, positioning itself in the premium segment above BYD's current range, with prices anticipated to exceed Rs 80 lakh.

The social media post featured Denza's distinctive blue and silver hourglass-style logo and the tagline "Arriving soon," promising a "sophisticated, high-performance EV experience" for Indian consumers. Denza, originally established in 2010 as a joint venture between BYD and Mercedes-Benz, became fully owned by BYD in 2024.

Globally, Denza is known for selling luxury and performance EVs and plug-in hybrids across various markets. The Z9 GT, a four-door shooting brake, is powered by a 122.5kWh battery and three electric motors, delivering a combined 1,156hp, with a claimed 0-100km/h acceleration in 2.7 seconds and a WLTP range of 600km. The D9 is a large luxury MPV, likely to feature a 103kWh battery pack and a front-mounted motor producing 313hp for the India-spec model, offering a WLTP range of 520km.
