TL;DR
India significantly expanded its EV charging network in 2025 by adding over 27,000 new stations at fuel pumps, boosting accessibility for electric vehicles.
India substantially boosted its electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure in 2025, adding thousands of new stations across the country. According to a year-end press release from the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, under the FAME-II government scheme, 8,932 charging stations were established at various retail outlets. This initiative was complemented by oil marketing companies, which independently deployed over 18,500 additional charging stations using their own resources.
The cumulative effort resulted in a total of 27,432 new charging stations nationwide, making EV charging more accessible and convenient for both electric car and bike users. These new stations are strategically located at existing fuel pumps, integrating seamlessly into drivers' routines. This expansion is a critical step in encouraging wider EV adoption and is part of a broader national strategy to develop cleaner and more efficient transportation systems for the future.
