Delhi's Upcoming EV Policy to Emphasize Charging Infrastructure and R&D Investments

TL;DR

Delhi's new EV policy is set to prioritize the expansion of public charging infrastructure and a significant increase in R&D funding to strengthen the city's electric vehicle ecosystem.

The Delhi government's revised Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy 2.0 is expected to place a strong emphasis on bolstering public charging infrastructure and significantly increasing investments in research and development (R&D) activities. Officials indicate that the new policy aims to create a more robust electric vehicle ecosystem within the city.

Key recommendations for the updated policy include establishing 1,000 public charging stations, each supported by a ₹15 lakh incentive, and introducing extensive battery swapping stations at 1,000 locations, with each unit incentivized by ₹6 lakh. Additionally, plans propose the installation of 15,000 AC charging points and 2,000 DC charging points, with a total outlay of ₹8 crore.

A substantial increase in the R&D fund from the current ₹5 crore to ₹100 crore has also been recommended to foster innovation in the EV sector. The policy is also likely to introduce an incentive scheme for vehicle owners who opt for scrapping old vehicles and purchasing new EVs, along with continued exemptions on road tax and registration fees for electric vehicles.
