Delhi's government has introduced a new Electric Vehicles Policy, effective from July 1, 2026, marking a significant step towards a phased transition to electric mobility. Under the new policy, from January 2027, only electric three-wheelers and N1-category light goods vehicles will be eligible for new registrations. This mandate will extend to new two-wheelers starting April 2028, signaling a strong governmental push towards electrification in key transport sectors. The policy also includes substantial first-year purchase incentives, offering ₹30,000 for electric two-wheelers and ₹50,000 for e-autos.
To further encourage electric car adoption, models priced up to ₹3 million will receive exemptions from road tax and registration fees. Additionally, eligible owners who scrap older vehicles can receive ₹100,000 as an incentive. Beyond vehicle purchase, the policy actively supports the expansion of charging infrastructure and battery recycling initiatives, complementing a comprehensive scheme approved in June 2026 to replace high-emission trucks and buses in the Delhi-NCR region.
