Delhi Implements Progressive Electric Vehicle Policy to Accelerate Green Mobility

TL;DR

Delhi's new EV Policy 2026, effective July 1, 2026, mandates electric registrations for three-wheelers from 2027 and two-wheelers from 2028, backed by a ₹15,000 crore investment in incentives and infrastructure.

Delhi has rolled out its new Electric Vehicle Policy 2026, effective July 1, 2026, aiming to significantly boost EV adoption and combat air pollution. This policy introduces aggressive targets, mandating that only electric three-wheelers and N1 category commercial goods vehicles will be eligible for new registrations starting January 1, 2027. Furthermore, from April 1, 2028, all new scooter and motorcycle registrations in the capital must be electric.

The policy outlines a comprehensive investment plan of ₹15,000 crore, including substantial subsidies for EV purchases and scrapping incentives for older, polluting vehicles. Electric two-wheelers will receive incentives up to ₹30,000 in the first year, with a phased reduction over three years. Similarly, electric three-wheelers are eligible for incentives up to ₹50,000 initially. This strategic move aims to fundamentally reshape Delhi's transportation landscape by promoting cleaner alternatives.
