Delhi Government Unveils Draft EV Policy 2.0 with Comprehensive Incentives

TL;DR

Delhi's draft EV Policy 2.0 offers 100% road tax and registration fee exemptions for EVs under ₹30 lakh, along with purchase and scrapping incentives, to accelerate electric mobility adoption.

Delhi's Transport Minister, Dr. Pankaj Kumar Singh, announced the draft Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy 2.0, emphasizing a "citizen-first approach" aimed at facilitating a seamless transition to electric mobility. The policy proposes a 100% exemption on road tax and registration fees for EVs priced under ₹30 lakh (ex-showroom), with a focus on benefiting middle and lower-income groups without imposing additional financial burdens.

The comprehensive policy framework includes various incentives such as purchase subsidies for electric two-wheelers, e-autos, and electric goods vehicles, alongside scrapping incentives for older, polluting vehicles. The draft has been opened for public feedback for 30 days, ensuring stakeholder input before its final implementation. This initiative reflects the Delhi government's commitment to fostering a cleaner and more sustainable urban environment.

Furthermore, the policy outlines a clear roadmap for phased electrification, mandating that only electric three-wheelers will be allowed for new registrations from January 2027, followed by electric two-wheelers from April 2028. A structured plan for electrifying school bus fleets is also part of the policy to ensure a gradual, complete transition in the coming years.
